Corchos, a wine bistro where national wines play the main roles
On June 11, Corchos, a restaurant in the corner of Bartolomé Mitre and 25 de Mayo opened its doors. It proposes a neat combination of local dishes with a selection of Uruguayan wines from ten first-line wineries, aiming at the local public who allow themselves to enjoy a glass of wine at lunchtime and tourists who cannot leave the country without a dose of the well-known tannat.

Alexa von Hagen and Juan Sebastián Vázquez have seen their dream come true with the opening of their bistro in the heart of the Ciudad Vieja in Montevideo: a place to host their customers, making them forget the hectic midday runs and transporting them to the heart of Uruguay: its land and its vineyards.

To do this, they have summoned ten of the most prestigious national wineries to share this unique experience: Antigua Bodega Stagnari, Bouza Bodega Boutique, Bodegas Carrau, Bodega De Lucca, Filgueira Viñedos y Bodega, Vinos Finos H. Stagnari, Establecimiento Juanicó, Marichal Wines, Pisano Wines and Pizzorno Family Estates. Each of them offers a selection of its most representative products.

The cuisine is in the hands of Juan Sebastián, a graduate from ITHU with experience in several restaurants in Montevideo, who organized a menu of light dishes with a combination of local and international flavors, whose cost starts at five dollars. In addition, from Monday to Friday there is a dish of the day for seven dollars. Before leaving, one should not miss the tasting of four mini desserts, a creation fully identified with the sweet tastes of Uruguay.

As for wines, it is not necessary to order a bottle, since every week there are five wines offered by the glass (starting from four dollars the glass), or even by half-glass. But Alexa, the hostess and a wine enthusiast, will not fail to invite each guest at lunchtime for tasting a complimentary wine, while she describes the winery and provides the information of each wine to taste.

Corchos is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. It can host up to 42 people at midday, but also many kind of events can be organized for other times, such as tastings or corporate after-office. It also offers executive menu, with or without wine.

The dining area is complemented with a boutique space where you can buy the wines from these ten wineries associated to the restaurant proposal for its opening. Information and reservations: +598 2917 2051.
