As Andrés Terra, Commercial Manager, announced some time ago to Bodegas del Uruguay, Los Cerros de San Juan continues to face a new stage which includes the launching of new products and a change in its image aimed at a more dynamic and modern consumer.
The first two products in this trend were in its line De La Colonia Premium: a Cabernet Sauvignon and an assemblage of Tempranillo-Tannat.
Now it is the turn of a Late Harvest for its line Cuna de Piedra, made with Gewürztraminer grapes from the harvest 2007 and left to overripe in the sun and cool night breezes coming from the San Juan river, beside which the historic vineyards of the winery are located.
To achieve the highest quality, only 3000 kg per hectare were produced, resulting in a very small lot of 400 bottles of 500 cc. This makes the Cuna de Piedra Late Harvest Gewürztraminer 2007 an extremely exclusive wine, worthy of being searched before being sold out.
With passage through French oak barrels and eight months of bottle aging, the wine has the potential to lay down for 6 to 10 years. Its tasting notes describe a deep golden color, delicate aroma of dried fruits and confit fruit, and a balanced flavor between the sweetness coming from 39 grams per litre of sugar, and acidity from 3.2 grams per litre of tartaric acid, honey and almonds at the end of the mouth, silky on the palate and with great volume. Its alcohol content is 13.7%.
This wine is recommended to be served at 10 -12 °C and in pairing with foie gras and blue cheese, with desserts or after the meals, with coffee or chocolate. Or why not alone? Like a good liquor.
